Regularly Scheduled Programs and Activities

All programs and activities below are included with any Historic Jamestowne admission ticket, unless noted.

11:00am–12:00pm: James Fort Archaeology Walking Tour [Daily] CANCELLED FOR FRIDAY, MARCH 13
Join a Jamestown Rediscovery archaeologist or education specialist who has been part of the exciting discoveries on a walking tour through James Fort to hear about the ongoing excavations and some of the most significant findings. Tour begins at the Tercentennial Monument.

2:00pm–3:00pm: Beyond Brideships Walking Tour [Wednesday]
Join a Jamestown Rediscovery historian who will discuss the history women created at Jamestown from 1607-1699. Going beyond maids, brides, and mothers, this tour will discuss Jamestown’s English, Powhatan, and African women as fighters, builders, politicians, and diplomats. Tour begins at the Tercentennial Monument.

2:00pm–3:00pm: Jamestown vs. Plymouth Walking Tour [Thursday]
Join a Jamestown Rediscovery historian for a walking tour where we will compare and contrast the two colonies, the origins of their rivalry, and some surprising correlations between them. Tour begins at the Tercentennial Monument.

2:00pm–3:00pm: First Africans Walking Tour [Friday] CANCELLED
This walking tour of “New Town” will focus on the arrival of the first Africans in Virginia in 1619. Of the nine Africans listed at Jamestown by 1625, only one was identified by name—a woman named Angela. Recent archaeology has investigated the site of where Angela lived and worked. But the story of African Americans at Jamestown goes beyond 1619… Tour begins at the Tercentennial Monument.

Thursday, March 12, 2020, 10:00am–4:00pm: Inside James Fort: Forged in Iron
Blacksmithing was one of the earliest trades to be practiced at Jamestown. Join Blacksmiths Shel Browder and/or Steve Mankowski for demonstrations and a discussion of the types of work that went on at the site of the original James Fort Forge. Location: Archaearium.

Friday, March 13, 2020, 10:00am–4:00pm: Inside James Fort: Forged in Iron

Friday, March 13, 2020, 10:00am–4:00pm: Inside James Fort: Hoops & Staves
Join Cooper Marshall Scheetz as he demonstrates traditional methods for creating buckets, barrels and casks. Coopering—the making of wooden storage containers—has existed for over 3,000 years. Location: Archaearium.

Saturday, March 14, 2020, 10:00am–4:00pm: Inside James Fort: Forged in Iron

Saturday, March 14, 2020, 10:00am–4:00pm: Inside James Fort: The Powhatan Indians
Join Daniel Firehawk Abbott of the Nanticoke people from Maryland’s Eastern Shore to learn about the material culture and lifeways of the Tidewater Algonquians as well as their interactions with the settlers of Jamestown. Location: Archaearium.

We do our best to offer all activities as scheduled, but occasionally weather or other factors will necessitate last-minute changes. Some programs, such as NPS Ranger Tours, are only announced that day, so please check at the Visitor Center for the most up-to-date information.
